Matthew 28:19-20

Our Statement of Faith...

  • The Bible: We believe in the authority and sufficiency of the Holy Bible, consisting of 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, as originally written, verbally and plenary inspired, and is the product of the Spirit-controlled men. It is infallible and inerrant in all matters of which it speaks. The Bible is the center of Christian unity and supreme standard by which all human conduct, creed and opinions shall be tried, because it is the Word of God.(2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:19-21; John 10:35; John 17:17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13).

  • God the Father: We believe there is one and only one living and true God, the Maker and supreme Ruler of heaven and earth, inexpressibly glorious in holiness and worthy of all possible honor, confidence and love, executing distinct by harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.

  • The Trinity: We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, equal in every divine perfection and executing harmonious but different aspects in the great work of redemption.  (2 Corinthians 13:14).

  • Jesus Christ, God the Son: We believe in His Virgin birth. We believe that Jesus was begotten of the Holy Spirit in a miraculous manner, born of the Virgin Mary, as no other man has been or can be born of woman. He is both the Son of God, God the Son, the true God and true Man.(Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:26-35).

  • Redemption and Reconciliation: We believe that by the appointment of the Father, He voluntarily took upon Himself our nature, yet without sin and honored the divine law by His personal obedience qualifying Himself to be our Savior. When He shed His blood in His death, He fully satisfied the demands of a holy and righteous God regarding sin. We believe that He was a voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner’s place.Christ the Lord bore our sins in His own body on the cross. We believe that the shedding of blood was for the sins of mankind. (2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:7, 8; 2 Corinthians 5:14; John 10:17, 18; Galatians 3:13;1 Peter 2:24; Romans 5:6-8; 1 John 2:1, 2).

  • Resurrection and Priesthood of Christ: We believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ and His ascension into heaven where He now sits at the right hand of the Father as our High Priest, interceding for us. (Matthew 8:6; Mark 16:6, Luke 24:6; Acts 4:10; Acts 2:9).

  • Holy Spirit: We believe that the Holy Spirit is divine in person, equal with the Father and Son with the same nature. He was active in creation. In His relation to the unbelieving world, He restrains the Evil One until God’s purpose is fulfilled. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgement. He bears witness to the truth of the gospel in preaching and testimony. He is the Agent of the new birth, and seals the believer unto the resurrection of the saved.

  • The Holy Spirit assists the believer in endurance, guidance, teaching, witnessing, sanctifying. He fills, baptizes and helps believers in their walk.We believe that all who receive by the faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit, and thereby become children of God. (Hebrews 9:14; Psalm 33:6; 1 Corinthians 2:10-12; Matthew 28:1; John 16: 8-11; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 12:12, 13; Ephesians 5:18-20; 1 Corinthians 2:12; Galatians 5:22, 23; John 16:18-11; John 3:3-6).

  • Man: We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he voluntarily transgressed God’s law; that Adam fell from his sinless and happy state which lead to spiritual death which is separation from God.

  • As a consequence, all men are born with a sinful nature, totally depraved, or partakers of Adam’s fallen nature and are sinners by nature and by conduct. (Genesis 1:26-27; 2, 3; Romans 5:12; Romans 3:10-11; Jeremiah 17:9; Psalm 51:5).

  • Grace and the New Birth: We believe that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again. The new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus; it is instantaneous and not a process. In the new birth, the person that is dead in trespasses and in sin, is made a partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life, a free gift of God.This new creation is brought about by our sovereign God in a way that is beyond our comprehension by the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with divine truth.(John 3:3-5; 2 Peter 1:4; James 1:18; John 1:11-12; Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:12; Ephesians 3:17; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 8:2, 9).

  • Justification and Sanctification: We believe that justification is that judicial act of God, whereby He declares the believer righteous upon the basis of the imputed righteousness of Christ. It is bestowed, not in consideration of any works of righteousness which we have done, but solely through faith in the Redeemer’s shed blood. We believe that sanctification is the divine setting apart of the believer unto God.It is an eternal act of God, based upon redemption in Christ, establishing the believer in a position of holiness at the moment he trust the Savior. It is a continuous process as the Holy Spirit applies the Word of God to our lives. The final accomplishment of the process will end with the Lord’s return. (Acts 13:38, 39; Romans 5:1, 11, 20; 1 Thessalonians 3:12, 13).

  • Security of the believer: We believe that all who are truly born again are kept through faith unto salvation by the power of God. (John 6:39–40; John 10:28–29; Romans 8:35–39; Philippians 1:6; 1 Peter 1:3-5).

  • Israel: We believe in the sovereign selection of Israel as God’s eternal covenant people, that she is now dispersed because of her disobedience and rejection of Christ, and that she will be regathered in the Holy Land and, after the completion of the church, and will be saved as a nation at the second advent of Christ.(Genesis 13:14–17; Deuteronomy 28:62–68; Romans 9:1-13; Deuteronomy 30:1-3; Ezekiel 37:1-28; Romans 11).

  • The Church: We believe that the local church is an organized congregation of immersed believers associated by covenant of faith and fellowship. We believe in observing the two (2) ordinances of Christ; in being governed by God’s laws and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges as given in God’s Word. The church is the Bride of Christ, including all who have been born again since Pentecost, when the church began. (Acts 2:41-42; Ephesians 4:4-13;2 Corinthians 11:2).

  • Missions: We believe that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. We must use all Scriptural means to evangelize the unsaved in every part of the world. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15;Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; 2 Corinthians 5:20).

  • Ordinances of the church: We believe that Christian baptism is the single immersion of a believer in water to show forth in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our identification with the crucified, buried and risen Savior, through whom we died to sin and rose to a new life.Baptism is to be performed under the authority of the local church. It is a prerequisite to the privilege of church membership. (John 3:3-5; Mark 28:19-20; Acts 2:42).

  • We believe that the Lord’s Supper is the commemoration of His death until He comes, and should be preceded always by solemn self-examination.We believe that the Biblical order of the ordinances is baptism first and the Lord’s Supper, and the participants in the Lord’s Supper should be immersed believers.(Acts 8:36-39;Romans 6:3-6; Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-30; Acts 2:42, 20:7).

  • Satan: We believe in the reality and personality of Satan, the Devil, and that he was created by God as an angel. But through pride and rebellion, he became the enemy of his Creator. He became the unholy god of this age, and is the ruler of all the powers of darkness is destined to the judgement of an eternal justice in the Lake of Fire. (Ezekiel 28:14, 15; John 8:24; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 6:10–18; Revelation 20:10).

  • Rapture and Subsequent Events: We believe in the pre-tribulation return of Christ, an event which can occur at any moment. At that moment, the dead in Christ shall be raised in glorified bodies. The living believers in Christ shall be given glorified bodies without tasting death. All shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air before the seven (7) years of the Tribulation. We believe that the Tribulation, which follows the rapture of the Church, will be culminated by the revelation of Christ in power and great glory to sit upon the throne of David and to establish the millennial kingdom. (1 Corinthians 15:51, 52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 4:1; Isaiah 32:11).

  • There will be two (2) judgements during this time.Believers will be judged concerning their works for Christ while on earth. The wicked will be judged at the Great White Throne out of the Book of Life, and other books. (2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:12).

  • Human Sexuality: We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of marriage between one man and one woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery or pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex.We believe that God disapproves and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance. We believe that the only Scriptural marriage is the joining of one Man and one Woman as defined at birth by genetics. No same sex marriages will be performed at Faith Baptist Church. Genesis 2:24; Genesis 19:5, 13; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; Romans 7:1, 2; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:9, 7:10; Ephesians 5:22-23; 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4).
